In Hyun Joong’s recent guesting at KBS Show Yoo Hee Yeul Sketchbook, the MC asked if he also sing ballads, Hyun Joong answered affirmatively and prepared to sing ‘If You Were Like Me’, an OST he sang for the drama ‘ The Wedding Scheme’.
All is well, until that moment when Hyun Joong asked the MC, ‘Can I look the other way while singing? it’s awkward singing it in front of you since you’re a man.” Hahaha.
The result, he sang the song with his face averted from the MC, he could have just faced the audience to lessen the awkwardness. Showing his most endearing 4D character, he sang the song with such ardor and concentration, he’s too caught up with his performance you can hear the catch in his voice towards the end.
Quite frankly, ‘If you Were Like Me’ is one of the best song that Hyun Joong recorded. It is always a treasure watching him perform it live since the song showcase the texture of his voice and his vocal range. Ballads always suit him since he is always able to express the emotions required by the song which makes me wonder what deep experiences he had to tune into in order to give these heartfelt performances.

In one of his recent interviews, he refer to himself as an ‘ahjussi’ – an old man, maybe so.
He reenacted a scene from Won Bin’s movie “Ahjussi” or A Man From Nowhere which ended up being hilarious.
The MC of Sketchbook introduced him like this : ‘one with a boyish smile but with manly body.’ Towards the end of his interview, MC Yeol asked him what is his dreams, Hyun Joong answered like a 100 years old ahjussi : I don’t have any!! I think of everyday as a dream, to live it with no regrets!
We always see him as the beautiful man with that killer smile and killer body, we also see him as the fantastic performer, but what always get me beyond these beautiful trappings is a 28 years old man who thinks like 60 years old going on 15….I guess no matter how we surmised what goes on in that 4 dimensional mind of his, we will always come up short in understanding, since his mind is like a memory stick, ALWAYS EXPANDABLE!!
