[CrazyforKDrama Review] BAREFOOT FRIENDS Episode 19

So, remember last week when I was all like “the cooking part is boring, next week is going so boring…” Well, jokes on me. When I watched last night, I enjoyed the heck out of this episode. Once our friends started talking again, the show picked back up, I laughed a lot, and I even really liked that lady’s house we went to. Not boring at all!

But then…

Then something happened. Today, while doing screenshots, I got to the end of the segment at Tony’s house and realized the episode wasn’t stopping. I looked down at the clock and saw I had a whole 20 minutes left of the show! Apparently, last night I fell asleep during the last 20 minutes and didn’t even realize it. You’d think that would be good news. Like when you think you ate all the cookies, but nope, there’s one more. But you know what? This left over cookie? It was stale, covered in lint, and tarnished the memory of the awesome cookies I’d eaten before.

It’s not like that part of the show was awful. It was just that as basically a rehash of the visit to the very first house (I’m too cranky to look up names) so the segment seemed repetitive and unnecessary. What is the point? They uncovered their bad eating habits in part 1, learned about good healthy eating in part 2, and made food for a lonely star, part 3 of the challenge. What is the point of this third house? And are we going to end up still at her house at the beginning of the next episode?

A funny/unfunny moment was when they made the break for the Running Man promo, as that cast was running around and having fun on some pirate challenge, all “Arrrrrr Matey!” and then we return to Barefoot Friends where the goddess of cooking redeux is pouring everyone a glass of water. Night? Meet Day.

As I sit here bitching, I’m trying to remind myself there were a lot of good things about this episode. I enjoyed playing the disappearing/reappearing Kim Hyun Joong game. The banter between the cast and guests was really funny, I actually prefer it when the cast is left  to their own devices and just sit around teasing and poking at each other.

Oh–something else I learned–they did film a day of everyone eating in their own lives! We got glimpses of the missing Uee, Kim Hyun Joong, and Eun Ji Won footage this episode. I WANT TO SEE THAT! I wonder why they decided not to show it? They show everything else.

Kim Hyun Joong was in fine form this episode. I love his blank “WuT?” stare and left field comments. I do have to share this one worry I have about him though–it’s totally weird and random–but here it is. He wears his hat down so low, it almost folds the top of his ear in half. I always think to myself whenever I see his poking out ear that one of these days it’s going to stay like that and he’s going to be stuck with one ear pointing out. You know. Just the one. Because since he wears his hat crooked–so the other ear is going to be just fine.

Here’s a little plea from me to Kim Hyun Joong. Please, please stop wearing your hat like that. First off, the crooked thing makes you look silly. And secondly, I can’t focus on how pretty you are if I’m worried over your dumb ear.

You know what else I thought of this episode, with the disappearing/reappearing Kim Hyun Joong? Him popping out made me think of Eunhyuk who’s now missed 2 challenges, which made me think of Bum-soo. Anybody else remember our other missing friend? It’s been a really long time! Has anyone heard anything about him? I wonder if he’s going to be able to join the cast again?  I know he did return back to his radio show, but that’s about it. Wouldn’t it have been awesome if they revealed the “lonely star” they were cooking for was to be Bum-soo? A nice checking in would have been nice, and he could probably use some chicken soup….

Top 5 Moments
1) Full on ahjumma! LAUGH. She made me laugh throughout her part of this episode. She didn’t let those guys get away with anything, from slyly giving Eun Ji Won what for when he was upset he had to cook:

“We’re here to eat your food but you want me to cook here?”
“Then I could have just eaten at home. Why even come out here?”
“You don’t have to cook if you don’t want to eat. Do as you want.”
To going head to head with Kim Ho Dong. (I also loved the video editing of this part making it an actual battle between the two:

Stop thinking that it’s a battle! (But if it is a battle, I put my money on her.)

2) The boys trying to cook on their own. They did pretty well with the stuffed cucumbers, ending with Kang Ho Dong feeding everybody. But cooking the fish on pot lid was way beyond their abilities. When the fish wasn’t cooking fast enough and they switched to the torch? So funny.

They were pleased as punch with themselves…until she came out to check on them. I loved how fast Eun Ji Won gave the torch back to Kang Ho Dong and ducked behind Jong Shin as if to disavow all knowledge of their antics.

3) Kang Ho Dong outing Andy’s relationship to his mother on the phone. Oops! Somebody’s gonna hear it after filming…

4) Uee and her fan-girling on Hee Joon. First off why him over Andy? Andy seems cuter and nicer while Hee Joon seemed a little…*insert word for making me feel weirded out here*. Second, it was so cute when she asked if she could feed him. Sometimes I dislike Uee because she comes off as a little fake, but this episode, she couldn’t hide how excited and pleased she was.

5) Kang Ho Dong, coming up with his first rice craver recipe. Everyone mocked him, but by the end? Everyone wanted in on his creation.

Honorary mention:
THE PASTA SONG!!!! When they played the song from Pasta, I might have danced a happy little jig.

Quotes
“Do we get to empty your fridge today?”

“Don’t re-dip the chopsticks!”

“I didn’t know Uee ate so well. I like you even more now.”

“Salted Shad gut is really precious and good.” ew

“You think all 6 of us have an IQ of 500 together?”

“You have some here? Whatever we talk about you have. Is this a supermarket?”

“We just made a fresh batch because we used it all.”
“Look into my eyes and say that again!”

“Do we need a cutting ceremony for the kimchi?”

“No one is better at eating than Kang Ho Dong.”

“He’s like a human dishwasher.”

“Jo In sung? When are you going? Are you going to his place?” Yeah, I’d act the same way…

“On your way, if you’re coming…buy some chickens on the way.”

“They all want to see you.”
“Are they pretty?”
“Oppa, come over and we’ll make you some chicken soup.”
“Let me stop by the salon first.”

“Aren’t you an actor? An actor is serving me a drumstick.” To Mr. Hee Joon, you are not endearing yourself to me by not knowing who Yoon Shi Yoon is.

“Show them your butt dance.” If I had a nickel every time I heard this…

“That means her husband drinks a lot.”
“Why do you think it’s my husband who drinks?”

Side note: I need to have these cups!
