Shin Jung Tae’s World : Fireworks at Club Shanghai EP 16
Who doesn’t enjoy watching the brilliant, multicolored dazzling explosions of fireworks against the velvety dark sky? We often wondered how such intricate designs are made, the timing involved, the sounds echoing across the night. Never mind if it is a mixture of chemicals and human actions, what matters is the resulting gleaming magnificence.

What better way to announce to the world the grand re-opening of Club Shanghai than the fireworks display. The people stopped what they were doing and took noticed. But what they saw in the sky is a foreshadow of an eminent outbursts to happen on the ground.

Club Shanghai is now the battleground of factions for ownership, the flagship to show power amongst the powers. The Club confers status, exclusiveness, being at the core of influence. It is highly coveted and this desire for its possession has already produced the sparks of the coming explosions.

Shin Jung Tae found himself at the center of this vortex. The whirlpool that created the disturbances had been the result of a perception that the club is mismanaged (deep in debt) and that no one is effectively in charge or the one in charge is seen as a low class gangster, Jae Hwa.

Jung Tae had allied with Jae Hwa to the consternation of his ritual father Hwangbang leader who thought he could use him to get the club. But leader Mo appeared and presented a challenge to the club leadership.

It can be recalled that Mo lost Dandong to Ill Guk Hwae and now is in the mood for an acquisition no different from takeovers of organizations and hostile corporate raids happening at present.

The management of the club will not be decided by ownership of shares (like today) but by winning in an actual fight between Mo and Jung Tae. If you think past friendship and debts count, they now seem to have disappeared in thin air.

Mo’s winning is considered a foregone conclusion. Jung Tae is seen as not capable of foiling his attacks, that the old man of Hwangbang reminds Mo to take it easy on his “son”. Mo pointblanked asked Wang Baek San what is it that they want on the day of the fight. Hwangbang actually wanted the control over the Club and used the threat over the lives of Mo’s family to keep him in line. Over this Mo has only winning as his goal in his fight with Jung Tae.

The Ill Gook Hwae is also interested in the club but actively more now with Aoki around. He also wants Jung Tae out of the scene preferably dead. Looking for ways to oust him for good he has stumbled upon using his Achilles heel -that of Ok Ryeon, who if we recall had in the past accidentally killed a Japanese official. Uh-oh.

The Bamsantong community is an interested spectator. The Club after all is a source of employment, dead men, leftovers and shit.

Old Man Fly wants to help Jung Tae hone his fighting skills lamentably lagging behind known martial arts despite tremendous efforts exerted.

Though seemingly besieged at all fronts, Jung Tae’s pecking order within the jealous Jae Hwa subordinates has been established while his love life is all blooming and lovely with Ok Ryeon.

Episode 17 is where we will watch the fireworks on the ground. Who will have the brightest spray of lights coming from within?
Did Mo’s arrival spoil Jung Tae’s game plan?
