Barefoot Friends without Hyun Joong will soon happen. Not that it didn’t happen before-one episode minus Hyun Joong. Ho Dong at the opening of that episode went “where is Hyun Joong, he is never late.” An SUV car (an SK celebrity trademark vehicle) came and the cast chorused, “it must be Hyun Joong.” It wasn’t Hyun Joong, but a familiar comedian whose wedding he even attended. I lost interest watching the entire episode where the cast alternated stuffing their faces with homemade food till the contest narrowed to two combatants.
BF has had various challenges aka missions for its cast which I wrote about in a previous article. Everyone particularly OUR MAN proved they were up to what was expected of them and more. Till the show got stuck to its food fest eating orgies motif in I lost count episodes.
In episodes lately, I noticed times when Hyun Joong was staying mostly in the background out of range of the camera view. He would even shift positions just to look at what’s cooking. Why ? Is that to wean us from seeing him in the show? But then we got our fix back during the oral quiz portion some dubbed as the dumb and dumber portion. Actually, his answers were funny, he might as well consider being a comedian some day.
In an interview or was he just joking then, he said he wants to become one. Hey, can you imagine a handsome with a body to die for comedian? Is that even possible? No offence meant to anyone, but comedians who draw attention to their good looking physical selves and other achievements tis said can’t be taken seriously.
To return after briefly digressing to the inevitable issue here -’BF without HJ’, would our late afternoon Sundays be the same again without him ? I am part of the herd scrambling to watch BF in the raw in “simultaneous” stream. Or catch it later through other sites in the raw, till other sites upload it mercifully several days later in English. This global thingy -Hallyu spread they spout a lot but couldn’t provide it in English versions simultaneous with the korean version really gets me. Although some TV stations though late are putting out show already with English translations. It’s about time they recognize what will make their contents highly marketable even more instead of depending on volunteers.
From the grapevine I got that BF will be transfered to another time slot, develop another concept, and possibly with a different cast (conjecture only). SBS is said to be dropping or has already axed another popular variety show as part of its Fall Schedule is also being flouted around.
Where and when BF is going, eventually gone, OUR MAN is going somewhere definitely. In case we have some readers here quite late to the scene, FYI, KHJ has been casted as Shin Jung Tae for the Age Of Feeling Kdrama now shooting in Suncheon, SK. He needs all the concentration and the energy he can muster to be the drama’s hero.
So the loss of BF is the kdrama firmament’s gain. As an aside, UEE is also starring in Gold Rainbow, another Kdrama opposite Jung Il Woo.
Both HJ and UEE are currently mainstays of BF with over 24 episodes(to date) each to their credit. They don’t only deserve a rousing applause for that accomplishment but medals of valor. Does BF still have more episodes in stockpile with the two in them?
Aren’t you sharing my wish to see both in another show together after their respective dramas end before (sob,sob,sob) HJ enters MS in 2014?
In the meantime, your mission is to get used to BF without HJ. Will you take it hard if you no longer see on your small screen his chipmunk face full of the gargantuan one bite, his expression when awed and surprised, his unprintable face after the extreme taste in food but still going for it, his many hats and one of a kind T Shirts, the way he looked at UEE (ahem), his oh no and it can’t be written all over him, his characteristic laughter and deadpan jokes, and the closeups given to us by loyal and loving fans, etc.
Ah I can go on and on, I bet you are starting to miss him already.
Okay, let’s take our heartbreak one at a time,is all I am saying.
