Kim Hyun Joong Comebacking At Breakneck Speed
It takes quite a while for me to adjust back to writing about Kim Hyun Joong and not Shin Jung Tae after 3 months.That’s not even counting his pre-Inspiring Generation months of preparation.
Now we have a new term to add to the list of X, Y, Z generations. Should it be inspiring or aspiring? The latter term seems to be the more accurate one since the Bangsamtongs led by Jung Tae aspired for better life conditions. On the other hand, they could be inspiring to the next generations as their legendary fights for their rights will resound and will be etched in the memory of that community history.
The ink marking the end of the drama hasn’t completely dried yet and here is Hyun Joong giving interviews left and right with pictorials to boot. Of course everyone would like a piece of the action not only the actor. Did I just write that and forgot he is a singer? Slip of the mind.
Without batting an eyelash, he quickly seemed to have shed the Shin Jung Tae character although the human psyche would not let him do that. It isn’t easy to let go of a character he had internalized, lived in, breathe in,moved in, fought and loved in. He was mostly serious, frowning with a big letter V on his forehead (how’d he do that?), angry and seldom smiled that many fans missed his trademark sunny smile that lighted up his face. And yes, his infectious laughter,too.
But his most recent pictorials allowed us to see Kim Hyun Joong return to us -his beautiful radiant smile, his penetrating and pensive gazes, his composure in relaxed yet confident body poses. His hair deliberately combed and styled in different ways is the reassuring goodbye to Shin Jung Tae. Jung tae now belongs to the array of beloved characters he has done-Yoon Jihoo of Boys Over Flowers, Baek Seong Jo of Playful Kiss. Baek Mir of City Conquest was at best a pre-Shin Jung Tae, maybe?
While Shin Jung Tae wore rugged attires half of the drama, he transformed into the well dressed suited gangster for the rest. His suits may have been in stretched materials to do all the fistfights and reverse kick complete with flying in the air. But his shoes didn’t look comfortable enough for the tough jobs he did for the drama.
Wasn’t he tired doing all the rolling in the ground, punching the daylights out of his foes, getting hit and then getting scolded?
If he was tired and exhausted, his satisfaction with the result of his work that he has done his best more than compensated them. Though Hyun Joong claimed in an interview it was in his 20′s (he is now going into his 30′s next year) when he was “bold and fierce, restless at work “. He still is only in a different level perhaps more calculating, careful in planning his moves with corresponding preparations. He has accomplished much in the short period of time since going solo in 2010 in an almost dizzying pace.
This time he made himself part of history of pop idols turned dramatic action star pure and unadulterated (no doubles and camera tricks).
Spotted recently in the airport on his way to Jeju island to rest amidst the creatures of the sea, to go scuba diving with Bae Yong Joon and yes to cast away the IG spell, he already outlined his plans before his MS entry next year.
He also revealed in an interview he wants to do a movie and or drama, a concert, an album, a musical tour (reportedly world wide in scope). Whew! Mr.Workaholic strikes again. At breakneck speed. What a comeback!
Already the idea of entering the MS excites him as another learning opportunity besides doing his duty. Duty for him means active duty (I’m guessing he will opt to be in the Marines) not as a celebrity soldier ( this program was already phased out last year) though he is not against it.
Hyun Joong’s best antidote to the hangovers of the drama is to move on. Fiercely, again. So he is gung ho all over again, make way!
Of course he can’t leave us cold without enough to watch till he is released from the MS.
So we will let Hyun Joong do everything he can within his powers.
